Unless your head has fallen off…

You can still workout!

Aside from any serious life threatening illness/injury that would leave you in hospital for an extended period of time, I thoroughly believe you can make a deposit to your fitness account everyday, even if you have an injury or have some sniffles.

A lot of people are looking for any excuse to get out of the commitment they have made. A cough or a sore knee is a perfectly acceptable reason to not get a workout in – wrong! You can still make progress even when everything isn’t feeling perfect.

I get asked all the time if a member can still come to the gym if they have a sore shoulder or if they have back pain. Think of any injury possible – I’ve been asked about it.

The answer is always the same – unless your head has fallen off, you can come to the gym!

Seriously though, I’ve not come across many things that can’t either:

A – be made better by some targeted rehab in the gym; or

B- be worked around for a while during the healing process (whilst also doing targeted rehab)

Let’s say you’ve slipped on the ice and broke your wrist. Why would that stop you from going to the gym?

You can do 100’s of core exercises

You can do lots of leg strength exercises

There’s even studies that suggest training your non injured arm will help your injured arm.

As I write this, there’s a class going on that has a few people in it who have some injuries but are still able to get through a really good workout.

You see, every workout at Defy is coached. That coach can help to completely switch a workout for you to adapt to your limitations. Even by moderating intensity on the days you don’t feel great, our coaches can help you to still make progress.

An even better option would be Personal Training. Here our coaches can help with specific rehab to get you back in the game as soon as possible.

You should always be making deposits to your fitness account. That time and energy invested will pay you your biggest ever returns – health and longevity.

The only bad workout is the one you don’t do. Don’t let anything deter you from making those deposits, especially injuries or minor sickness. Worse case scenario you can go for a walk or do some mobility work to have a better squat.

Doing nothing sets you back further than any injury will.
