Defy Functional Fitness Reopening Plan

We are very excited to get everyone back in the gym as soon as possible. Although we don’t have a definite date yet, we are more than ready to have everyone back working out and having fun with us.

This past couple of months have been difficult for many of you and we are extremely grateful for your support and working with us in an online format. If this hadn’t been the case then we would not be putting together a reopening plank like this – we would have our doors closed for good!

It is unfortunate that small gyms and studios that can maintain high levels of sanitization and operate with social distancing measures aren’t classed as ‘essential businesses’. We could have helped a lot more people through this pandemic if this was not the case. This is how we plan to reopen and what you can expect at Defy Functional Fitness:

Setup & Social Distancing

  • The gym has been divided into eight 12x12ft workout areas. 
  • Each workout area has all the equipment needed for the workout
  • Each member will be assigned a workout area and will stay in this space for the duration of the class
  • All doors will be propped open (front door will be weather dependant) to minimize touchpoints

Cleaning & Sanitization

  • We will maintain our high standard of cleanliness and increase the frequency of our deep cleans
  • Our floors are cleaned with a Tennant T1 floor scrubber using EP50 hospital grade disinfectant
  • Hand sanitizer is available upon entering the gym, leaving the gym and other places around the gym
  • Each workout station will have a spray bottle filled with disinfectant and a cloth that will be changed after every class
  • The member will spray the cloth and wipe down all the equipment they have used at the end of each workout
  • In between classes, coaches will spot mop any sweat areas that are left after the workout

Class Schedule & Sign Up Process

  • The following class schedule will be subject to change on a WEEKLY BASIS. If a class is poorly attended then it will be removed from the schedule. We will also add more classes if we need it. Check your Zenplanner app or our website HERE

Monday to Friday

5:30am to 6:30am

6:45am to 7:45am

9:30am to 10:30am

10:45am to 11:45am

5:30pm to 6:30pm

6:45pm to 7:45pm

Saturday

7:45am to 8:45am

9:00am to 10:00am

10:15am to 11:15am

  • Zoom Classes will remain at 10am and 6pm (Monday to Friday only) and will stay on the schedule subject to attendance
  • We will be enforcing a strict pre-registration procedure. If you are not pre-registered for a class – YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND that class regardless of space available.
  • Sign up will be available two days prior and cancellations allowed up to 2 hours before the class.
  • If the class is full you can sign up for the waitlist and will be notified if a spot is available
  • If you sign up and do not attend then you are taking a spot from another member. If this becomes an issue we may have to introduced penalties although we don’t see this happening 
  • You will not check yourself in on the iPad – the coach will do that for you
  • Each class will have a maximum of 8 people 
  • There will be space for one Private Coaching session at the back during class times

Class Changeover & Personal belongings

  • Shoe storage at the gym will not be allowed for the short term – you must take all your belongings home with you.
  • There will be a minimum of 15mins between class times
  • During this 15mins the previous class will exit and allow the coach to set up for the next class
  • You are only permitted entry 5mins before your class start time
  • All your belongings will go with you into your 12x12ft space
  • The washrooms will be open but not the showers (this may change upon government guidelines)
  • Children will not be allowed to wait in our seated area unfortunately as we cannot control social distancing

Programming

  • If you have followed along with our programming then you should be pretty fit right now but the weights have been light for most
  • Don’t expect to come back into the gym as strong as you were
  • We will slowly build back up our strength work with the barbell
  • Olympic weightlifting will be a focus to increase our technique and efficiency
  • As always focus on quality over quantity and speed
