Gift ideas for a CrossFitter

Buying gifts for someone can be very stressful. Most adults don’t really NEED anything and if they did then they would probably go out and buy it themselves. Anyone who has a hobby usually loves the gear or gadgets that go with it and no matter how much of it they already have, more is always better!

If you have a CrossFitter in your life then this list may help you pick a gift for them this Christmas. I’ve put them in, what I believe is, the order of importance and what they would get the most use out of in the gym:

Training shoes

The first thing I would buy is a good pair of CrossFit specific shoes. I don’t mean weightlifting shoes as these are more specific to certain types of workout. There are two major brands to choose from, Nike and Reebok. These have a more sturdy sole which helps to minimize power loss in movements like squats, deadlifts and box jumps. Both brands have a couple of options but my preference is the Nike DSX Flyknit 2.

Skipping rope

Most gyms have skipping ropes available for members to use. However, these are roughly sized and not specific to the individual. They also get a lot of use so tend not to be in the best shape. A good quality skipping rope that is sized to the individual is going to help them progress in their skipping. They will also be able to practice outside of the gym. I personally use an RPM session 3.0

Gym bag

With all the extra gear they are going to have, a good gym bag will come in handy. There are a lot of options out there and personal preference is going to be the deciding factor. I would suggest looking for a bag with a few smaller pockets to hold keys, wallets and the smaller items used in CrossFit. Also having a separate compartment for sweaty clothes or shoes would be great, especially if they will sit in the bag all day after a morning session. A couple of options to check out would be the RYU collection, who offer a bag that looks great and provides a lot of storage. Another option would be King Kong bags. They are tailored to CrossFitters and have some great options. Michelle has the backpack and loves it.

Activity tracker

Everybody loves a bit of data. Having something that can track your workout, your activity throughout the day and even your recovery can provide good information. Again, there are lots of brands out there and it all depends on what you want to track. I like to measure my heart rate every workout and I have the Garmin 735XT. The good thing about this watch is that it tracks all my activities, including, swimming laps, running metrics, biking metrics and my heart rate during gym workouts. Whichever brand you go with, to track HR properly you need to have a chest strap, the wrist-based sensors aren’t great.

Gym wear

You can never have enough gym wear. Shorts, tees, socks, underwear, leggings, you name it we need it! A lot of brands are designing specific functional fitness gear which is generally more robust and handles the demands of CrossFit. Check out th Nike collection or the RYU collection for some inspiration.

Some ideas for Stocking Fillers

Knee sleeves

I’ve found Rehband to be the best. The 7mm are great for heavy lifting and the 5mm for regular workouts. Make sure you buy two though as they come in singles.

Wrist wraps

There are lots of different styles depending on how much support you want. The strength wraps are what most people use. Check out these on Rogue

Grips

Protecting the hands is going to help a lot. Gymnastics movements on the pull up bar will create a lot of friction and can rip the skin on the hands. I use Bear Komplex 2 hole or Jaw Grips.

So, if you have a CrossFitter in your life, have a look at this list and give a gift that will get used this Christmas. Feel free to send me a message if you need any extra help.
