2020 Defy Intramural Open

We believe in stepping outside of your comfort zone. A great way to do that is to add an element of competition to your workouts. The Defy Intramural Open is designed to do just that in a fun and community-driven way.

The CrossFit Open starts on October 10th and over 400,000 people will tackle 5 workouts over 5 weeks to see where they rank worldwide. If you’re interested in knowing your worldwide rank you can REGISTER HERE.

Each week a workout will be released on Thursday at 8pm. There will be an RX version and a Scaled version. Each athlete will have until Monday at 8pm to complete the workout (they will be incorporated into regular classes).

The Defy Intramural Open is our in house competition using the workouts from the CrossFit Open. We will divide into 3 teams:

TEAM BLACK – Captained by Coach Darren

TEAM RED – Captained by Coach Chris

TEAM GREY – Captained by Coach Stephane

Our draft will happen on FB Live next Thursday, September 19th. Everyone who is registered will go into a hat and picked to join each team.

On the Saturday of week 6 (Nov 16th) we will have a Mystery workout (this will be fun)

REGISTRATION

We have created a private leaderboard to track each team’s points. YOU MUST REGISTER HERE TOP BE INCLUDED in the Defy Intramural Open. 

You don’t have to register with the CrossFit Open to participate in the gym competition, however, it can be fun to see where you rank.

POINTS

+1 Point – Attendance: every member of a team that completes an Open workout at Defy each week earns one point. Maximum one point per athlete per workout. This goes for Rx AND Scaled competitors!

+1 Point – Top 3: every male AND female member who places among the Top 3 at Defy for each workout (Rx only) gets an extra point for their team.

+5 Points (team) – Spirit: The team with the most noise, pride, and PRESENCE each week will receive 5 bonus points.

+5 Points (bonus) – 6th workout team win

PREPARATION

The next four weeks will focus more on Open-style workouts in our regular programming. In addition to that, we are open to running additional skills sessions focussing on movements such as TTB, Muscle Ups, HSPU, Barbell Cycling, Kipping Pull-Ups, etc. These sessions can be held at 7pm throughout the week.

Our hope is that we can get as many members involved to make it as fun as possible and create some friendly rivalry in the gym. The Open isn’t a time to stress about what you can’t do, but focus on the things you can do and giving everything you have got!
