Understand Your Inner Voice

Your inner voice is your friend. If you’re hearing it you know you’re still alive…

It is wired for survival and it is your biggest critic. Your inner voice is always looking for the negative (danger) in any situation to ensure your survival.

I see people in the gym fall victim to their inner voice almost daily. They want to keep working, to keep pushing and achieve their goals. The body is ready but the voice takes over. As well as being your best friend it can also be your biggest enemy.

At times, I have fallen victim and my inner voice has stopped me from achieving some of my goals. Understanding how to control it will enable you to use it to your advantage.

When you’re uncomfortable is when the voice comes out to play. The discomfort could be physical or emotional but either way, you can count on that voice being sat on your shoulder.

We have to seek discomfort in order to spend more time with the voice and bring it under our control. Physical discomfort is the best form of therapy. When you’re deep into a workout, long-distance run, or you’re swimming through a cold body of water – you will have a choice – to stop or to keep going…

Every time you choose to keep going, you win! You take control and the voice becomes your friend. Next time it’s not so loud and over time you can go further and further.

The voice is trying to help you – to keep you alive. Tame it and let it know you’re in control and you start to Get Better At Life!
