It’s not about the food

I have to admit, coaching nutrition hasn’t always been easy. In fact, coaching nutrition is far from easy. I’ve always had the knowledge and I can write the best “meal plan” for you in the world. More often than not, that will not get you the results you want. Not for the long term anyway.

The reason…it’s not about the food.

I’ve spent a good part of this year learning and studying how to really coach someone on their nutrition. Calories, macros, supplements are usually where most people start with nutrition. This is a perfectly good approach but I often find 95% of people FAIL this way. 

Weighing and tracking food every day becomes a chore and is often quite restrictive. Many people who track macros often default to the same foods which limits the variety of nutrients they consume.

Habit based nutrition, in my opinion, is the best way to get started in improving your nutrition. We could call this “Level 1” – mastering the basics of quality food, variety of food, water intake and sleep. 

As a nutrition coach, the best service I can provide anyone is accountability. When you know that your coach will be checking in on your progress, it may give you an extra boost in difficult times.

I have developed the Defy 6 Week Nutrition Kick Start. This is a habit based nutrition program designed to forget the idea of being on a “diet” and start to think of good nutrition as part of your daily life.

The program is delivered through an app that will allow me to track your progress as you check off your daily tasks. Nothing is “off limits” in terms of what you eat. Remember – it’s not about the food. Everyone knows what is healthy food and what is unhealthy food. We can also communicate through the app and there will be daily lessons delivered through email.

The 6 weeks will obviously take us through the Christmas period where nutrition choices are often worse than normal. This program does not mean you cannot enjoy Christmas, you just may make more conscious choices around the days of extra indulgence.

The program will start on Sunday the 29th Nov – which will be a prep day. Each day you will have daily tasks to check off on the app. I recommend taking some photos for your own reference, these can also be uploaded to the app if you wish.

Nutrition is a very simple yet extremely complicated topic. There are several factors to be successful. Your environment, your relationships, your lifestyle etc. It’s important to start with the low hanging fruit (the easy stuff) and build successful habits around those.
