How do you see the hills?

We are always going uphill or downhill, very rarely is it flat. How do you see the hills?

When I run, I usually use the same routes. I’ll run out for a certain time/distance, turn around and run back, or run a loop. To mix it up this can be done in reverse.

Most days in our life we do very similar things. Wake up, have breakfast, go to work etc…

On my runs, I usually don’t notice the slight downhill that I may be running on…until I turn around and then I feel the extra effort needed to maintain pace on a slight incline on the way back. I’ve run loops that felt like I was running uphill most of the way…until the day I do it in reverse and realize there are uphills there too!?!

We are programmed to notice our challenges – we always see/feel that incline. How many times do you feel the downhill part of life.? When things are running smoothly, do you notice? When it’s easier than normal do you take advantage of that and speed up or conserve energy?

If you do, that’s great. You’re certain to notice the challenging times so it can really help to appreciate when things are good.

2020 had it’s uphills, that’s for sure. And 2021 has started at the bottom of the steepest incline. There’s a tough climb ahead made tougher by the expectation that this year would be better. It won’t be for the most part…

Unless you start appreciating those downhills.

The days you don’t have to line up too long for groceries. The days you get up early and have a great workout or the day your child solves his/her own problems during online school.

You will ALWAYS notice the harder days and there will always be a lot of them, GOOD, that’s life, learn. Just be sure to make note of those downhill segments and the uphills will seem easier.
